Bug Description

Binary package hint: scim

How would I know if the bug has or has not been reported? There is not nearly enough information available for me to make that assessment--and I'm supposedly a computer expert. Y'all are the real experts, and if Ubuntu is smart enough to generate meaningful dumps, you should collect and deal with them. In fact, the first aspect of your expertise should be to determine if a dump refers to an old and hopefully solved problem. I'm going to attach the crash reports here and delete them from my system. All they are doing for me is wasting my disk space and making me doubt that I should even be trying to use Ubuntu, no matter how badly I want to escape from Windows.

another mysterious crash report--but created with the wrong permissions, so I had to use a sudo-ed nautilus to make it accessible for reporting. How many typical users could have figured that out?

Shannon,

Please describe the steps to reproduce the problem and the problem itself (if you can lend more information than just that it crashed). Thanks!

There were no steps in that scim-related one. I got the crash as it was booting. The Synaptic-related crash was more complicated. Unfortunately, I can't really remember the details of what went wrong, though I think I was there because the regular upgrade was failing and it had told me to do something with Synaptic.
