Hi, can you follow the steps described at "Boot Options" section from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelBoot page, and report back here where it's freezing? A picture with messages showing where it stops can help finding the problem.

When following the steps 4 and 5 from that page, it misses that you also should replace "set gfxpayload=$linux_gfx_mode" line with "set gfxpayload=text" on natty, to avoid it keeping the graphic mode ("purple screen"), so please do this change as well.

hi,

i tried exactly as described and changed to text mode.

i have a few lines that boot, but quickly the screen turns black, and nothing more happens.
it was too quick to take a picture, but the screen went black after something like "system 00:01: Plug and Play ACPI device, IDs PNP0c02 (active)" (not exactly this line, i took it from syslog from the working kernel). Anyway it was a message about PnP cards discovering.
No error messages happened after, just a black screen and time passing by.
thanks

Ok. May be you have some problem with the nvidia proprietary module, can you try to disable or remove nvidia proprietary driver? I don't know how you installed, probably you can disable it with jockey (jockey-gtk or jockey-text).

hi,

I added "blacklist nvidia" to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf. and in fact, the kernel booted fine afterwards.

3.0 kernel and ocelot stops booting at the purple screen (no icons) on pc as well, 32 bit. Have GEForce 550 card.

Even the installer CD won't boot.

Boots fine with 2.6.38

That version is no more supported; please open a new bug report if the actual archive found version also has the same issue.
