ansm tray icon is just a vertical line

Bug Description

When amsn runs, the main tray icon is sometimes a vertical line one pixel wide. Because of its colour, i can only see it if i make the panel bar transparent. It happens irrespective of whether the panel is transparent when amsn is started.

This happens occasionally to the main amsn icon, but the amsn mail notification icon is almost always just a thin vertical line one pixel wide. amsn or hotmail still appears if i carefully click the thin line.

at first i couldn't figure out what was wrong with my settings, but after making the panel transparent i can see the vertical line that signifies amsn icons should be there.

it is as if the icons have been "compressed" to one pixel.

This has been happening to me on jaunty, intrepid and lucid. i have not tried maverick or natty yet.

I thought this could be related to the fact that i hadn't done a fresh install since jaunty, only upgraded. however, i did a clean install (for other reasons), which is what i'm using now, and the problem is the same as ever.

i have also tried using metacity instead of the default compiz, but this has no effect on the problem.

occurrence of this bug is seemingly random, but more often than not.

lsb_release -rd:

Description: Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS
Release: 10.04

i will be glad to provide any further pertinent information, or try any reasonable experiments to help solve this. no other IM application available on ubuntu provides the level of msn functionality as amsn, so an alternative application has never seemed an option.

kind regards,

ex-oficio

hi I have added the aMsn daily PPA at https://launchpad.net/~amsn-daily/+archive/ppa to my software sources, which caused my amsn version to be upgraded to 0.98.4.

This has not affected the bug.

the issue may be the toolkit. I dont want to upgrade my distribution as i stick to LTS releases, so i looks like I'll just have to continue to put up with it for now.

Hi ex-oficio.
Could you please try the new amsn 0.98.9-1 from my ppa [1]?
