Bug Description

Unforutnately the indicator-weather indicator does not provide _any_ information since I upgraded from the version in Ubuntu to the latest PPA version. There is no way to interface with the indicator-weather icon: no menu, no mouse over effects, and the icon only displays as a red balloon with cloud and sun. There seems to be also no configuration file (or none I can find) and no --help and --verbose (nor any other) command line parameters. I happaned to come across a set of log files in ~/.cache/indicator-weather.log after studying the source code, though (I assume this will be appended to this bug report).

The reason I upgraded to the PPA version in the first place is that the version which ships with Natty kept crashing minutes after login for the first weeks I ran it, then, after an update, kept freezing (there were no menu nor icon updates no mouse over effects then, too).

Please, make sure you have a file in /usr/share/indicator-weather/media/icon.png

There is a workaround for this - just open a menu for any indicator and press left arrow button several times. The menu for weather indicator indicator will appear. After the indicator is configured, correct icon will appear.

Changed in weather-indicator:
importance: Undecided → High
milestone: none → cloudy-9
status: New → Confirmed

$ ls -lah /usr/share/indicator-weather/media/icon.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6,3K 2011-05-30 11:45 /usr/share/indicator-weather/media/icon.png

The workaround works, and the icon changes after configuration has succeeded, but the menu still doesn't show up when I click on either weather icon or temperature.

Changed in weather-indicator:
milestone: cloudy-9 → backlog

I am seeing this on a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 64bit with indicator-weather installed from repos. I can pull down the menu, but the icon never changes and the temperature label never appears.

To me this is not a duplicate of bug #964365. While the crashes are also discussed here, this bug is primarily about the lack of a usable user interface. This problem occurs right at the start of the application, but the crash only occurs after a while.

Can't reproduce. Is this still an issue with the latest builds (13.05.xx)?

I'm no longer using this software now, in 2013, due to the numerous issues it had.

I am closing this bug then, since I cannot verify that it still exists. If anyone can confirm it exists, feel free to reopen it or file a new bug (and please attach your ~/.cache/indicator-weather.log file)
