I have updated the package to version 0.1.45.
It can be found in my PPA: https://launchpad.net/~veger/+archive/ppa and the source can be found at: https://code.launchpad.net/~veger/+junk/jsch

Hm... I did not follow the guideline for this merge. Now I know them, so soon I'll do a proper update

It is an upgrade directoy from the source (as debian does not provide this verion aswell/yet), so only the ubuntu changes are provided

I would like to get a freeze exception for this update to version 0.1.46:

Changes to the package
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The only changes are:
 - replacing the upstream source with the updated version
 - updating the version number in debian/pom.xml
So they are not too radical/unstable, I suppose
Reasons
~~~~~~~
The current version is very old and the updated version fixed (long) outstanding bugs and adds new features.
Personally, I need a feature that allows to (re)use my ssh-keygen-ed keys (stored in ~/.ssh), changelog entry 'support for private keys ciphered with aes192-cbc and aes128-cbc' (included in version 0.1.44).

Tests
~~~~~
I have been using this update (from my PPA https://launchpad.net/~veger/+archive/ppa) since 2012-02-17 daily (required by EGit, Eclipse git plugin) and did not encounter any problems/oddities.
I noticed that my PPA contained the 'old' 0.1.45 package. I uploaded the 0.1.46 package (which are currently waiting to build)
There are a fair number of reverse dependencies and reverse build-dependencies. Have they been tested with 0.1.46?
I only tested it with EGit (installed using the Eclipse Update site, not a package).
How to find what packages are depending on jsch? I could try out some with the new version, although I do not know how to do so thorough.
I have eclipse-platform and ant-optional both installed and used. But I do not know whether I actually used the libjsch requirements of these packages. As for the other packages: should I install them all and try them somehow? Some are quite 'specialistic' and can probably not properly tested by me...
Precise is released, so I have updated the package to its newest version (0.1.48).
As I directly upgraded from the upstream sources (as Debian also does not provide a newer version), I only attached the ubuntu changes.
