sl sometimes shows contents of current directory

Bug Description

When I expect a steam locomotive, I sometimes get a listing of the current directory.
I wasn't able to reproduce the bug intentionally, but the sl manpage clearly acknowledges this bug.
Also, a quick code review of sl.c didn't reveal the root cause.
