Bug Description

When I try to use the menu launcher for "AMD Catalyst Control Center (Administravtive Mode)", the amdxdg-su program starts and brings up a small text window with a prompt for the superuser (root) password.

Upon entering my regular user password (as is the default with Ubuntu) an error message briefly appears in the small text window with something to the effect of:

"su: authentication failure"

Then the small window closes and the Catalyst control center never appears.

Previous versions of the control center worked correctly when providing the regular user's password for administrative permissions.

However, if I run "$sudo amdcccle" in a console terminal, the Catalyst control center runs with elevated permissions.

Patch attached for Kubuntu.

Could someone add code for Ubuntu? The problem is that in su_gnome(), amdxdg-su looks for gnomesu and xsu, but these don't exist. It looks simple enough to look for gksudo instead/as well. HOWEVER detectDE() inspects $GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID, the value of which is "this-is-deprecated". Clearly a better fix would change detectDE() as well to use some other way of detecting if it's running under GNOME.

Solved it:
As noted in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2154044&highlight=enter+the+administrative+password

gksu-properties was set to su instead of sudo.

Wasn't related to amdcccle.
I had exact the same issue when trying to upgrade the VirtualBox Extension pack.
Both act normal now.

Did some searching and found this:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/284306/why-is-gksu-no-longer-installed-by-default-in-13-04
As this post mentions gksu is deprecated as stated in comment #4
Don't understand why then gksu-properies does default to gksu instead of gksudo.

The problem still persists in Ubuntu 14.04. Maybe the launcher for Administrative Catalyst Control Center should be removed?
