It appears that Natty removed most of the raw 1394 support in favor of firewire_core. This broke most dv capture setups in existence. Someone needs to readd raw1394 and ohci1394 kernel modules to ubuntu natty. please tell your security guys who are humping firewire_core to stop being retarded.

Bug Description
I am using a sony dfw v500 firewire camera. this is like a 10 year old defacto standard in firewire capture... it's the 3com 3c905 of firewire cameras.
Basically firewire_core is seeing it... and creating a /dev/fw1 for it... but that's pretty much useless everywhere for everything since nothing is written to use firewire_core. The only people using firewire_core are people who don't use firewire.

libraw1394 is written to use it. Kino uses libraw1394; it does not access the kernel directly.
Please describe in what way DV capture is broken.
Also please attach the output of dmesg that contains messages from firewire.ohci and firewire-core
- from when the OHCI-1394 host controller is initialized,
- from when the camcorder is plugged in/ switched on,
- from when Kino is started.
