To help us figure out why bind9 did not start, could you please do

 grep named /var/log/syslog > /tmp/syslog.bind

and attach /tmp/syslog.bind to this bug?

It appears that it is having trouble reading the named.conf file.

File is set like this:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root bind 463 2011-05-27 12:53 /etc/bind/named.conf
