Bug Description

aufs.ko (and all other modules in ubuntu/ subdirectory) is not available, despite the fact that they are enabled in config-* files.

Could you please provide us with the output of:
dpkg -S /boot/vmlinuz-$(uname -r)
and
lsb_release -a

What kernel are you reporting this against?

This is not a bug in linux-image-*, this is a bug for the UML kernel in user-mode-linux. I have checked that this bug is present in Lucid and later releases. For Lucid, config.amd64 and config.i386 does contain "CONFIG_AUFS_FS=m" in the source package but it does not get compiled in. In Oneiric, "CONFIG_AUFS_FS" is missing from config.amd64 and config.i386.
