unity does not interact with onboard correctly

Bug Description
When bringing up the unity dash, I would expect to be able to type using the onboard onscreen keyboard application in order to search the machine. When the onboard application gains focus, however, the dash disappears.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Launch Onboard
2) Bring up the dash (top left corner of the screen - I hope I have the correct terminology)
3) Click on Onboard to try and enter text. Dash disappears.
I would expect the dash to remain present and to be able to use the onscreen keyboard to navigate.
