I'm having the same issue on Kubuntu 11.04 Natty 64b, installed from the alternate CD.

On starting Gimp from the menu or terminal, it segfault after the message:
(gimp:12649): GLib-WARNING **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.28.6/./glib/goption.c:2132: ignoring no-arg, optional-arg or filename flags (8) on option of type 0

^-- this message is also shown when running gimp-2.6 an Ubuntu live session which does not crash.

`dmesg`:
gimp-2.6[12806]: segfault at 50 ip 00007f9af7a32d1c sp 00007fffa3eb80b0 error 4 in libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.2400.4[7f9af7843000+436000]

I installed `gimp-dbg` and ran `gdb /usr/bin/gimp-2.6`, issued `run` and it crashed again:

Starting program: /usr/bin/gimp-2.6

The backtrace will be attached to this message.
