Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

compiz in natty/unity crashes sometimes when the java application tv-browser pops up windows indicating start of of favorite programs in an inactive destop. This error exists since i use natty/unity/compiz.

Here is part of .xsession-error:
** (<unknown>:1512): WARNING **: Unable to fetch children: Method "Children" with signature "" on interface "org.ayatana.bamf.view" doesn't exist

** (<unknown>:1512): WARNING **: Unable to fetch children: Method "Children" with signature "" on interface "org.ayatana.bamf.view" doesn't exist

(<unknown>:1512): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: instance with invalid (NULL) class pointer

(<unknown>:1512): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_signal_handler_disconnect: assertion `G_TYPE_CHECK_INSTANCE (instance)' failed

(unity-window-decorator:1692): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid uninstantiatable type `(null)' in cast to `GObject'

(unity-window-decorator:1692): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_get_data: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
Segmentation fault
I found until now no method to reproduce the crash in a reliable way (but it happens often) and tv-browser popups behave somewhat special.: when closing the popups the tv-browser main window gets the top position.

compiz version: 1:0.9.4+bzr20110606-0ubuntu1~natty1
unity version: Architecture: amd64 Version: 3.8.16-0ubuntu1~natty1

workaround: restart compiz with --replace

sometimes java popup windows of tv-browser are placed even in the global menu area. They can be moved in allowed areas by holding down the alt key and dragging with the mouse.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. Compiz, in particular, is in heavy development and this bug may have been fixed in the development version of Ubuntu (12.04) if not on your current version. If you are able, it would be of great help if you could confirm if the bug still exists by testing a livecd (available at ubuntu.com). When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #> and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue. If you are unable to test the development version, please let us know if you are able to reproduce this issue on Ubuntu 11.10.

Thank you for your help and patience.
