Multi-column selection view doesn't affect randomness

I tried out the multi-column selection view, ie. the right-most view option. I made the name up since I didn't see a label anywhere.
I love that view, but it doesn't affect random playing. I would expect it to only play songs according to the selection, like search. So if I pick a genre, it should never play songs from other genres for instance.
(The view is effectively useless right now due to bug 798986 since I can't select multiple songs.)

1. Type ‘metal’ in the search entry.
2. Make sure the ‘Random’ icon (the left one) in the statusbar is blue.
3. Advance to the next song with the tool button.
4. Repeat #3 up to 10 times and observe only metal songs are being played.
5. Clear the search entry.
6. Make sure to select the right-most view.
7. Select ‘Metal’ under ‘Genres‘.
8. Advance to the next song with the tool button.
9. Repeat #8 up to 10 times and observe only metal songs are being played.

The last step is what doesn't work.
