Bug Description

Running various KDE apps (e.g., okular, kate) from the console prints the following debug output:

QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: No such file or directory
QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /home/cubranic/.config/ibus/bus

I found online a mention that this is caused by not having a running ibus daemon (http://www.qtforum.org/article/32669/qinotifyfilesystemwatcherengine-addpaths-inotify-add-watch-failed-ibus-daemon.html). I have ibus-qt4 installed, but no other ibus-related packages, so it looks like a dependency is missing or didn't get installed by mistake.

Also, I didn't change the default settings for IM, and have no need for ibus as I'm only using a regular US keyboard and english locale. If there is a way to turn off and uninstall the whole ibus thing, please let me know.

Removing the following packages got rid of those debug messages:

ibus-qt4 libibus-qt1 plasma-widget-kimpanel-backend-ibus plasma-widget-kimpanel-backend

But that's just a workaround -- the real fix is to either install the complete ibus, with a *running* daemon, as a dependency of plasma-widget-kimpanel, or to only get the ibus client activated if ibus is actually in use.

summary: - Unwanted debugging output printed to the console
+ Unwanted ibus debugging output printed to the console

Davor, thanks for the workaround! Those messages were so annoying!

Anyway, this seems to be fixed in Oneiric: See bug #855472
