Bug Description

This might sound a bit bold, but if UGR is to be ubuntu's GNOME 3 distribution, maybe it should try to stick to GNOME's default applications, and thus install Epiphany by default instead of Firefox, and Rhythmbox instead of Banshee.

Well, I've just found out there ( http://www.gnome.org/applications/ ) that Banshee seems to also be an official gnome application... So, hte only change would to replace Firefox with Epiphany.

Great point. I don't really know what direction we're going to take in the future, but we have been just sticking with the ubuntu stuff because it's easier. Making lots of dependency changes can cause lots of unexpected issues, and it's a massive headache. If we determine that we want to use the GNOME applications, this will be something that we do several months from now, as there are more pressing issues at the moment.

I have put this on our brainstorm at http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/28116/ where you can vote for each outcome, make comments, and propose other solutions.

Actually, it seems that Banshee still does not use GTK3, whereas Rhythmbox does. So, I think that Rhythmbox is a better choice than Banshee.
Also, in Oneiric, LightDM is replacing GDM and Thunderbird is replacing Evolution.

This means that UGR will really have to choose between being Ubuntu with GNOME Shell by default but Ubuntu applicactions (Firefox, Thunderbird, LightDM, Banshee...) or being Ubuntu with the complete GNOME3 (GNOME shell, Epiphany, Evolution, GDM, Rhythmbox...).

IMHO, UGR should stick to GNOME3 / GTK3 apps as much as possible. The only exception I can think of is LibreOffice VS GNOME Office because GNOME Office still lacks vital components that LibreOffice provides (presentation tool mainly).
