Bug Description

Binary package hint: ecryptfs-utils

Hi,
after reboot I've noticed that some of my files under ecryptfs are corrupted and unfortunately those files are my Thunderbird's Inbox files:-(.

When I try to read those files I get (detailed file names hidden by me):
$ LANG=en_EN cp -r .thunderbird/ .thunderbird-backup
cp: cannot open `.thunderbird/*.pl/Inbox' for reading: Input/output error
cp: cannot open `.thunderbird/*-1.pl/Inbox' for reading: Input/output error

and in my dmesg:

$ dmesg |tail
...
[ 1927.752905] Valid eCryptfs headers not found in file header region or xattr region
[ 1927.752912] Either the lower file is not in a valid eCryptfs format, or the key could not be retrieved. Plaintext passthrough mode is not enabled; returning -EIO

$ uname -a
Linux * 2.6.38-10-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 2 21:32:54 UTC 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

$ dpkg-query -l|grep ecryptfs-utils
ii ecryptfs-utils 87-0ubuntu1 ecryptfs cryptographic filesystem (utilities)

Is there anything I can do about it? I have a backup, but it's one month old, so I would like to recover those files if this is possible. Right now I'm not even sure how to delete them:/.

It seems the problem you reported is a duplicate of bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ecryptfs/+bug/509180 , which was fixed upstream and is hopefully soon backported to all series. I will therefore mark your bug as duplicate. If I'm wrong somebody please correct me.
