Bug Description

Binary package hint: simple-scan

I have raised this bug against the simple-scan package, but suspect that this is a SANE problem (and am unsure of the SANE package against which it should be filed).

My Brother MFC-410CN is set up as a network printer/scanner. Simple Scan correctly detects the scanner on the network, but takes in excess of ten minutes to scan a single A4-sized area at 300 dpi.

I don't believe the network itself to be the bottleneck, since hundreds of megabytes can be transferred between computers in a similar timeframe.

same problem also with simple scan on precise pangolin. xsane i am guessing is fast on 12.04 as it was fast on 11.10.

I'm having the same issue with my networked Brother MFC 440CN.

B&W scanning is very fast with Simple Scan, but color takes forever (even at 300dpi setting). It seems that Simple Scan is setting the scanner to scan at the highest quality regardless of the DPI setting for color, and it's causing the scanner to move the scan head back and forth as it scans along.

XSane doesn't have this problem.
