Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

in Evolution 2.x I had emails displayed with fixed-width font. But after upgrade to 3.x one all emails are shown with variable width one which is something I can't stand.

Playing with settings in Evo does not change anything.

Did you try to set the font in Edit->Preferences->Mail preferences->General->Message Fonts?

Uncheck 'Use the same fonts as other applications'
Pick 'Monospace' as the 'Standard Font'

Works for me in version 2.32.2 (natty)

As you may see setting monospace fonts does not change anything. Evolution was restarted after font change.

Cannot confirm followed the same steps Veger described and it works fine after close/reopen the program, could you perhaps try with a new user just to see if your profile is somewhat corrupted or not? Thanks for the testing Marcin.

After upgrading to Oneiric, I too see this. I have tried various settings in Edit/Preferences/Mail Preferences/General to no avail. It is currently set to 'Monospace 10' for both standard and fixed width fonts, and all email previews are displayed as variable width. This is not great for reviewing patches and the like with evolution (something I do every day). Marking back to Confirmed for now.

I cannot reproduce my own steps as well... I guess I was mistaken somehow...
Sorry about that.

I switched to Thunderbird so checking was it fixed or not will be hard.

This is still a problem for me after the latest Oneiric updates and 3.1.4-0ubuntu3.

So, my problem turns out to be related to this bug:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=655002

The /desktop/gnome/interface/monospace_font_name gconf key was set to a font that I no longer had on my system, and so evolution fell back to using a variable font.
