Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome

I often use my laptop with the lid closed, by SSHing in and having the application windows displaying on the 23-inch monitor of my PC. Now with Oneiric a problem occured. All the sophisticated, fine-grained configuration tools were thrown away in favor of the much more simplified apps in the new GNOME System Settings (I successfully defended system-config-printer with the following Blueprint/UDS session: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-o-system-config-printer-vs-gnome-3-control-center) and so there is no way any more to select what should happen when closing the laptop's lid (should be under "Power") and this is currently hard-coded to suspend the laptop. One also cannot set the screen to never turn off (under "Screen"). Can we get these controls back?
