Cannot type ascii characters by using Ctrl+shift+unicode in natty

Bug Description

There are many methods to type ascii characters directly by using Ctrl+shift+U(4 digit unicode),I tried this method and works well in Ubuntu 10.10 but it cloud not work on Ubuntu 11.04,Whatever I tried to write ascii characters in gedit or gnome-terminal ,then all fail finally.

I have noticed that this bug is caused by the gcin program (keyboard input method system)

You may be right about gcin being the right package, but I am not sure. I am reassigning the bug to that package, as the developers of that package may be better placed to confirm this.
