What desktop environment do you use? Does it use NetworkManager? There is code in Deja Dup to wait until a network connection is available, but it uses NetworkManager to determine that.

I'm using GNOME 2.32.1, Linux 2.6.38 and NetworkManager 0.8.4~git.20110319t175609.d14809b-0ubuntu3

I have set up an wired connection. It definitely does not wait for the connection.

This is due to NetworkManager bug 805140, but I've worked around it in Deja Dup by only trying to auto-backup to the network if we've been connected for 2 minutes straight.
