Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

This started after upgrading to Natty. The freezes have only occur while using Unity or Classic; Classic 2d has display issues but no freezes. There are EDID errors in /var/log/syslog and kern.log that apport did not include. Mouse cursor continues to move on the screen but clicks do not work. Ctl-Alt-F(1-6) works and I can unfreeze by restarting gdm; ssh login is available. I'll attach portions of syslog and kern.log forthwith.

I'm adding a snip from /var/log/syslog and /var/log/kern.log that covers the time period of yesterday's (06-03-2011) freeze. The entries around 16:22 are when I restarted X using 'sudo service gdm restart'.

Hey cox.jmark,

You filed this bug report against natty, but I see it's still open and
doesn't appear to have much activity recently. So, now that oneiric
is released and stable, this may be a good point for you to upgrade
and re-test if this issue is still present there.

If it's solved in the new release and you think it's worth backporting
the fix, please indicate that. Or if having the fix in the new release
is good enough, feel free to close out the bug (or let us know and we'll
close it.)

If it's not solved, leave the bug report open. I can't promise we'll
get to it (we get way more bugs filed than we can usually get to), but
your testing and feedback can help out if and when we do.

I did not experience the problem once I changed to Xubuntu. I am not
willing to test current Ubuntu on this hardware as it is all that I have
available.

Unable to verify current status. Mark as abandoned removed; whatever is
the correct protocol. I am most likely going to go back to Debian
unstable for my desktop. That is what I was using in '05.
