Bug Description

Binary package hint: modemmanager

The Ericsson F5521gw 3G module should use the usb_ncm kernel module (/dev/usb0) for connecting for optimal speed and CPU usage (important for HSPA+ connections). Modemmanager needs to be told this for the usb ID 0bdb:1911 (currently only 0bdb:190d supported).

Marius, does applying just that udev change make the modem work in Lucid? No point in getting this backported if there are other commits in MM 0.5 required to make this work properly.

Yes it should, as long as the kernel has the usb_ncm module.

I verified that usb_ncm is available in the 2.6.38 kernel for Lucid: http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid-updates/i386/linux-image-2.6.38-10-generic/filelist

I also see that /usr/lib/ModemManager/libmm-plugin-mbm.so, which the udev rule trigger, is present:
