Bug Description

If this flag is not added (can simply toss it into GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX in /etc/default/grub) the suspend seems to occur normally in the log, but the machine shuts down, and fails to resume correctly.

Oh. This is on a default Natty install, although not a fresh install, so I don't know if this is the sort of thing the installer might have detected and worked around.

Other issues impacting this laptop are bug #791900, bug #791904 and bug #771716

Oh, while suspend and hibernate do work correctly now, I did notice a few times when doing suspend (simply closing the lid) then opening it a while later, the brightness of the screen was "stuck"

I couldn't find a way to brighten it by fiddling w/ screen brightness in power settings, and mucking about w/ the proc filesystem seemed silly.

The problem went away on reboot, and does not happen that often.

Derek, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please provide the information following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume ? As well, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . However, note you can only test Suspend, not Hibernate, when using a LiveCD. If the issue remains, run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <BUGNUMBER>

Additionally, if you could try to reproduce this with the upstream mainline kernel that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.
