Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity-2d

As the title says, in Oneiric unity-2d both Dash and the application menu fail to open. Dash doesn't even try to open but clicking on the app menu launcher does very briefly open the menu (one second or less).

I've encountered this with the Oneiric alpha1 iso-testing live CD (i386), and also post installation with same image. I noticed that there were a few updates available after installing and even after applying those updates the problem persists, and I've now also encountered this upon completing an upgrade test.

Unity-3d (the normal Ubuntu option) does work OK.

I wondered if this might actually be a metacity problem but it doesn't appear so. The app menu opens OK in classic w/o effects so it does seem to be limited to the Ubuntu 2D session.

probably duplicate of bug 791213 or bug 791127 or both since one is the bfb crashing and the other is the application places.

ALT-F2 to run a command doesn't work, either. The 'run a command' window appears briefly but then vanishes. This is in a fresh install of the official alpha1 (which makes alpha1 a bit unfriendly for testing VirtualBox, since ubuntu doesn't provide 3d out of the box in VB).

I have the same problem, and since I can't get 3d to cooperate with my graphics card, I'd really like to see the 2d alternative functioning properly.

@ Jean-Baptiste,

That does appear to have fixed the problem. Thanks for the reminder.
