This package is needed for adding color management support to Ubuntu. So it is a work item for this Blueprint:

I believe it can be based on the icc-profiles package I've been maintaining in Debian to support Scribus and related software's color management. In January I updated the icc-profiles package to sync it with other distributions and private collections of all profiles that we could legally distribute. I wonder if there is even a point in renaming the package as it can be used as is for the shared color management support.

Oleksandr, good idea. I have requested to sync icc-profiles into Ubuntu now, see bug 821861. Closing this one ...

As bug #643168 describes, there is a dependency of GNOME Color Manager needing the package shared-color-profiles. So packaging of shared-color-profiles is needed, or else gnome color manager needs to be changed.

There is now an icc-profiles-free package in both Debian and Ubuntu, which is a subset of the icc-profiles package that only contains DFSG-free profiles. If you can just change the Gnome's dependency from shared-color-profiles to icc-profiles-free then nothing else will need to be done. If the having a package named shared-color-profiles is imperative then we can transition icc-profiles-free to shared-color-profiles.
