Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Wine will not process a version of Internet Explorer AT ALL that has an address bar, and the IEs4Linux program was found to be completely worthless at it will not even complete installation of any version of IE. Without the Active X control it does not seem to want to function, even with the User Agent Switcher add-on.

Hi,

To get started with understanding this bug, you would need to specify which site it is that absolutely requires ActiveX controls.

Regardless:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/ActiveX

Clearly states that Firefox does not and will not support ActiveX, so there's nothing that will occur from a bug report on Firefox that would make this happen. I think your best option would be to report a bug against either Wine or IEs4Linux mentioning the problems you had with them.

Changed in firefox (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete
status: Incomplete → Invalid

My apologies...the report website does not exist on Firefox 4, but in
any case, the site is Convergys.com. Their site /requires/ the use of
Active X apparently. I'm trying to find an alternative to dual-booting
first.

Running Windows + IE in VirtualBox using its seamless mode may be the best way to do this. Regardless, writing a note to convergys.com administrators about how they may consider supporting other platforms than Windows only by avoiding platform-speciic technologies like Active-X would also be in order.

Sounds like it was a good thing that I set up my PC to dual boot
recently then. I will email them, in addition, with regards to your
suggestion about supporting the Linux and Mac Platforms.
     Thank you.
