Bug Description

With both xsane and simple scan I am unable to scan using my HP Scanjet 8200. This was working in 10.10, but broke with the upgrade to 11.04.
xsane reports "Failed to open device`avision:libusb:002:006': Operation not supported"

I've probably picked the wrong package, there are so many packages with "sane" in them, and their descriptions are insufficient to distinguish them.

This has failed on both an upgrade from 10.10 and a clean install of 11.04. Both on a system where the scanner was working on 10.10

According to http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.graphics.scanning.sane.devel/20836 this has been fixed in sane. Thus updating sane-backends to version 1.0.23 should fix the problem.

Do you know the actual name of the package? (sane-backends does not appear to be a package under Ubuntu)
Also, is there a PPA for the 1.0.23 package?

The source package is named sane-backends in Ubuntu, it contains libsane and sane-utils (and the related development and debugging packages).

I am not aware of any PPAs, 1.0.23 is not even in Debian yet.

Btw, I tested the scanner with the current stable version of Debian (squeeze), which comes with sane-backends 1.0.21, and it worked without any problems.

I'm running Mint using libsane-common 1.0.23-0ubuntu1 and can confirm it can not find my HP Scanjet 8200 also.
