Bug Description

I have the launcher set to autohide and to reveal when I put the pointer at the left side of the screen. Most of the time, putting the pointer at the left side of the screen reveals the launcher. Sometimes, it takes several "pushes" to the left side of the screen plus one or more clicks on other windows then back on the desktop, to get the launcher to finally show up.

Using Ubuntu 11.04 on an Acer Aspire 5253-BZ602
graphics: Radeon 6300 HD

I never faced this issue. Never ever. Can you check if you're running the latest version of Unity (3.8.14) ?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

* Is this reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

Both problems are intermittent, unfortunately.

I have already tried testing with different applications open, near and not near the launcher, to see if perhaps an application is interfering with the launcher, but no application causes the problem to happen reproducibly, and sometimes it happens with no applications open at all.

During a 2-hour period of use, I typically have 1-3 times when I can't get the launcher to unhide.

Trying to type in the Alt-F2 window (and/or the window you get by clicking the Ubuntu button in the top-left corner) is successful about 70% of the time and fails about 30% of the time. Also does not seem to be affected by which applications are open.

The drop-down arrow in the window you get by clicking the Ubuntu button appears less than 10% of the time, and is missing the other 90% of the time.

I routinely see this behavior.

When I start a new unity session, the launcher usually does not auto-reveal with the mouse for the first few minutes --- I must use the super key. After a while, it starts mostly working but I have never figured out what helps.

This is with a fully updated 11.10 amd-64 on a thinkpad X1.

@ Robert Harrison - there is a fix for this bug in oneiric-proposed which should soon be available via -updates. If you want to get the fix in the meantime see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed
