When it doesn't crash, the bug is IMHO not serious. The messages are
just an unpolite way of checking the existence for these libs in the

I am using the same version of 'xmms' and the messages are only
visible if you start 'xmms' from a 'xterm' or if you look in the
xsession-errors.

'xmms' start and work well. Not perfectly like the WOODY version,
but it works.

Right, but it fill up the "~/xsession-errors" which is curently
on my Workststion 63 MByte large (running 16 days or something
like this).

Hi,

if xmms fills up the file xsession-errors without an error happening
(and I consider 63 MByte in 16 days = 4 MByte per day as "filling up"),
than I consider this to be a state we shouldn't deliver the package to
our users, and therefor consider this bug to be serious. "Working" is
IMHO more than "does play musik".

Cheers,

Application is crash without this libraries. That's why I report this

Vladimir,

I can easily reproduce these warning messages, but I cannot reproduce
the crash you say you're experiencing. I don't believe the two are
related. If xmms does crash, more info is going to be needed to track
this down.

In the meantime, I'm downgrading the bug, since there's insufficient
evidence of it being a grave bug in xmms.

The suggestion that this is RC because the warnings fill the
.xsession-errors file is really quite absurd; there are lots of apps
which have much more verbose problems on startup.

Which Window Manager is used ?

This happens with "fvwm" up to version 2.5.10-12 and is corrected
in version 2.5.10-1. The messages are from gebuging.

See Bug #271481: fvwm 2.5.10-9 is filling up .xsession-errors

sarge and etch versions have this warning. To reproduce it, you probably
should do something like:

aptitude remove libmikmod2 ; xmms

Then you get an error about a missing libmikmod.so.2 file. This happens
too with other Recommends: libraries on xmms. Nevertheless, XMMS _never_
crashes (that's why they're in Recommends:, and also Patrick pointed out
that this libs are optional by design)

Seems like XMMS is trying to load all shared libraries even if they're
not going to be used. I think this is a design problem, and it will be a
hassle to re-implement library loading or library checking. Probably
XMMS is crashing in your case due to other problems (look for
Inconsistency detected by ld.so)

This isn't harmful. Michelle pointed out that the .xsession-errors are
probably fvwm's fault (#271481), and Patrick said XMMS is responding
unpolitely to the unexistance of a library in the libpath. We're closing.

Thank you very much for your interest in this problem,
Jose
