Bug Description

Binary package hint: tzdata

Running as a guest in VirtualBox (from Oracle, 3.2.12-68302~Ubuntu~lucid). The Update Manager was trying to update tzdata (as well as update Firefox because of a security update). I think this is my first attempt at an update after installing Natty in the virtual machine.

Details from Update Manager (copied from the "Package Operation failed" window):

installArchives() failed: Preconfiguring packages ...

Update Manager was unable to install the Firefox updates (it kept trying to install tzdata first).

Synaptic was able to install all 4 updates, after which it listed many more packages as being upgradeable, including libperl5.10, perl, perl-base, and perl-modules. (Update Manager had only shown the security update for 3 Firefox packages and the recommended tzdata update.) The Perl updates are going from 5.10.1-17ubuntu4 to 5.10.1-17ubuntu4.1.

Excerpt from Synaptic's log for tzdata:

  Setting up tzdata (2011g-0ubuntu0.11.04) ...

  Local time is now: Wed May 25 19:55:44 PDT 2011.
  Universal Time is now: Thu May 26 02:55:44 UTC 2011.
  Run 'dpkg-reconfigure tzdata' if you wish to change it.

The new batch of updates has another set of Firefox upgrades. The first upgrade was from 4.0+nobinonly-0ubuntu3 to 4.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubunutu0.11.04.1. This new update is to 4.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubunutu0.11.04.2. (Not a complaint; I thought the version information might be helpful for figuring out why Update Manager originally only showed me 4 packages.)
