Bug Description
In Hugin 2011.0 RC1(downloaded from sourceforge) Smartblend wrapper doesn't work. System Windows XP 32 bit. During stitching smartblend gives an internal error. DEVIL.dll can't read the file. Stitching goes on but there is no output file created.
There is no error log created, which can be saved. fast reading gives that message. In Hugin 2010.4 it still worked.

Warning: I have not been using Windows for year and I am no longer familiar with Hugin on Windows.
That said, here a few questions and hints to help zero-in on the problem.
Are you using an installer or a zipped package distribution?
How is smartblend added to the mix? just copy smartblend.exe into the Hugin directory?
Matthew provided both an installer and a zip package for both 2010.4 and 2011.0. Can you please download the zip files for both and do a few tests?
First: do the 2011.0 RC1 installer and zip package get to the same result? just to check the obvious.
Next: copy a fresh unzipped 2011.0 onto a fresh unzipped 2010.4. Then try using smartblend from that "hybrid". If it works, then some file (maybe a dll?) is missing in the 2011.0 zip file but present in 2010.4.
Hugin does not use DEVIL.DLL. Is it Smartblend? And what file is it trying to read?
Another possible avenue: can you check in the Hugin preferences, Stitching tab, what output format is selected? if TIFF with compression, try TIFF without compression. It may be that smartblend / DEVIL.DLL has not been compiled with support for LZW compression because of a patent (expired in 2003) and consequently it is not able to read intermediate images produced by nona.
It would help if you could paste / attach the full output log of Hugin to this report.
