Bug Description

Binary package hint: simple-scan

Most attempts to scan a document result in an incorrect document size (both on screen and in the saved document). The size is usually the maximum size (8.5x14 with the ADF, 8.5 x 11.7 on the flatbed ). This happens whether the paper size is manually set (e.g. Letter) or it is set to "Automatic".

Also trying to scan with the document feeder often results in the flatbed scanner activating instead. This typically occurs when the "Scan Side" setting is set to "Front and Back" (usually the default setting). This is not a paper alignment problem because the flatbed will keep scanning the same document over and over instead of just once. Stopping the scanning process with the stop button results in the scanner locking up. I have to power down the scanner to make it work again.

Both problems were confirmed on 2 different PC's running the same OS (11.04). The scanner model is part number 85-0101-100. Simple Scan is version 2.32.0.1.

This bug report contains 2 bugs. I share the first one where the paper size is being set to maximum and is ignoring the document preferences. I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 with an HP OfficeJet 4500 network scanner.
