dhclient.conf: append domain-search has no effect

If I have the following line in my dhclient.conf there is no effect on resolv.conf:
append domain-search "decideinteractive.com.", "247realmedia.com.", "247wpp.corp";

Until last week it correctly added the domains to the "search" line in resolv.conf

Now if I have the following line in dhclient.conf then resolv.conf is updated correctly:
prepend domain-search "decideinteractive.com.", "247realmedia.com.", "247wpp.corp";

As you can see the "append" line is identical to the "prepend" line apart from the append/prepend keyword.

Have same issue on Ubuntu 12.04. The "append domain-search" has no effect at all. But "prepend domain-search" does what is supposed to be done by "append", which appends the extra search domains after what we got from DNS server.

Are you two using resolvconf? Also are you using dhclient through ifupdown or through Network Manager?
