I wouldn't say the format of responses has changed, rather that they don't support the define operator any more.

That tbs=dfn:1 page looks a lot more promising.

They definitely still support it, see http://www.google.com/search?q=define%3Afood It's moved from an <li> to a <div>.

I get the same results whether I search for "definition food" or "define:food". The special results page no longer exists, there's just a "one box" or whatever tehy call them
