Bug Description

mplayer version 2:1.0~rc4~try1.dsfg1-1ubuntu1.

My screen is 1920x1080 but the video is considerably smaller at 1280x724 (yes, not 720; it's from BBC's iPlayer). I want to play it fullscreen, so all of the normal desktop furniture is hidden, but I do *not* want the video scaled at all. I want it precisely 1280x724 in the middle of the screen with the surround all black. I can find no combination of command-line options or keypresses that achieves this. If it's relevant, and I don't think it should be for this requirement, I'm using a -vo of x11 or vdpau.

The command I think you're looking for is 'zoom'. See if adding 'zoom=no' to '~/.mplayer/config' does what you want.

You might have to comment out some other settings as well. I had to take out every line except 'zoom=yes' to get mine to scale.

zoom=no in ~/.mplayer/config with no other options doesn't stop it scaling when full-screen is entered. I'm after mplayer blacking out all the surrounding screen area, like it does in its full-screen mode, but leaving the video unscaled in the centre.

Zoom=no or zoom=0 doesn't work when added to /usr/local/etc/mplayer.conf, ~/.mplayer/config, or both. The video will always be zoomed to fit the window size but keeping correct aspect ratio. At least one side, ie top or bottom, is always touching the window.

I prefer to have my window maximised with the video set to its original size. Mplayer currently isn't doing this.

I have this problem too, and for now all I can do is use VLC for those cases when I don't want the video stretched, unselecting the menu option "Video -> Always fit Window".

The reason why the zoom option in MPlayer doesn't work is that it belongs to the software scaler, so it has no effect if you have hardware-accelerated video support. I guess we could force some sofware render mode, but then I'd rather just use VLC.

I like MPlayer's keyboard controls though. That's why I would prefer to have this option in MPlayer.

Any reports on how how the progress is going?

I would also like to be able to play movies in fullscreen without having them stretched (in order not have to interpolate between pixels and loose video quality), and people are asking for that feature on forums: http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/350560-How-to-mplayer-video-fullscreen-and-keep-original-video-resolution
