Could you please add the file /var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/mozilla-flashplugin to your bug report as it seems to be corrupt? Thanks in advance.

I fixed this problem by uninstalling then re-installing flash. No idea why the flash update didn't work...

Since you've resolved this issue yourself and the mozilla-flashplugin file is not corrupt due to the resolution I'm setting this bug to invalid. Thanks for helping out though.
