Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

New Natty installation. When I maximize a window, the content has a tendency to freeze. If Firefox is maximized in the background for example and I try to open a link from Software Center, nothing happens. I can only see in the title bar of Firefox when I go back, that something was actually opened, and when I make it a normal window again, I can see everything that has been opened. This goes for other applications too and even if they are in the foreground.

It seems that it is not only when maximized. I have not found a pattern yet, but sometimes the content is simply frozen and other times it seems to be only some parts of it (buttons in dialogs, links in browsers etc.). When I move the window around a bit, it works again.

Seems like a problem with "Static application switcher" compiz plugin. Open the plugin configuration in ccsm and uncheck "Mipmap" option in "Appearance" tab

It was actually already unchecked, but I think it was one of the things I did to make it go away. I just got home from vacation for a month, upgraded Ubuntu and have not seen the error since. I tries to provoke it since I saw your message, but the only thing that happened was that the launcher mouseover titles disappeared after a while. I had to switch desktop to make them come back.

I will write back if it happens again. I'm very happy to see this improvement!

It seems that the behaviour does dissappear with this check removed. But a new error also seems to appear. At times it doesn't allow me to go to other windows and the launcher doesn't show the name of the program when hovering on the icon with the mouse. This is again by a full-screen window, though I have not yet found an exact way to reproduce it.

Oh...and by checking the box again, it goes back to the old bug freezing the window...but neither of them happen very often or at specific moments or system loads, as far as I have noticed.

It actually seems to be the inverted case when the box is unchecked. Everything except the window content (other desktops, launcher etc.) freezes and I need to minimize the window to free it.

Hello,
as part of the bug clean up ahead of 16.04 LTS I'm marking this as invalid because it affects an Ubuntu release which is now unsupported. If you can still recreate this bug in a supported release please do open a new bug and we can triage it for consideration in the 16.04 LTS development cycle.

Regards
NickTh
