Bug Description

Binary package hint: qjackctl

Upon start, xrun messages begin to appear. These messages repeat every minute exactly, reporting a new xrun. I get this in a low-latency kernel, in ubuntu studio 11.04. Could it be related to alsa, because each time happens, begins with : ****alsa_pcm:xrun of at least 46.321 msec.

These xruns ocurr wether jack is connected or not to any application.

Hi, I just found a similar problem reported here as Bug #366884

Apparently, this bug was never solved.
I am using a more recent version of ubuntu and jack and the problem seems to be there still.

Is there more information needed?

Hi again.
I have found a solution and this was not a bug. I apologize. The problem was that the wireless network card was interfering causing jack to momentarily loose priority. The solution for me was to switch off (power off) the wireless card. Now jack runs without xruns. This was using a lowlatency kernel 2.6.8-8 from alessio's repo. Sorry for the trouble.

Solved.

I got your email, Maxei, and I am replying here:

I reported the original bug (#366884). Since then I have upgraded my hardware (quad-core amd64), and used a generic kernel instead of linux-kernel-rt. The problem disappeared, but then again, I am not doing anything professional, etc.

I gave up on using the realtime patched kernel, mainly because it fell behind too much in other areas. Although the general experience was good.

I also quit using jackd for general playback, since it never worked well with suspend, which I use very often.

I'll check again in Natty once I upgrade and report back if I find any related problems.

Hi, this is quite an old bug now.

I assume as no-one reported back, that there is no bug any more. Please report again if this is not true.
