Bug Description

Versions of software used:
Ubuntu Edgy
Enigmail version 0.94.0
GnuPG 1.4.3
Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5.0.9

Steps to reproduce a failed signing:
1. Write a message and set Enigmail to sign the message
2. When requested for the password, an alert message from OpenPGP appears:
"Send operation aborted. Error: bad passphrase"

Steps to reproduce a failed decrypting:
1. Click on an encrypted message
2. When requested for the password, an alert message from OpenPGP appears.

*** Important update ***
If I create a new keypair and its passphrase contains accented letters, the process of signing and/or decrypting fails.
If on the same keypair I change the passphrase in one without accented letters, the process goes fine.

I can confirm it. I attach a screenshot of the error message (Italian locale).

I cannot confirm the bug. I use Enigmail with Thunderbird daily, and have not gotten that message (unless my passphrase is indeed incorrect). Is this just for the Italian locale possibly?

The problem is present using Enigmail either in English or in Italian, Thunderbird is in Itallian only.

All goes fine. But I think this is a fake solution, because using an extended charset with accents and special characters (like # $ £ *) is a good idea for a better security.

Another thing.
When I wrote a message containing accented letters, like this phrase: "questa è una prova", the process of signing and cyphering goes well, but the resulting decrypted and verified message is: "questa Ú una prova". The accented letter "è" in clear message is wrong.
I think there is a problem in charset. Please, verify this issue!

None problem using the command line gpg or the software Seahorse (and its plugin for text editor).
Thank you for your attention.

Aldo,

so this bug is not about enigmail not being able to sign email, but about a not supported charsets for passphrase?

1. Problem one: the passphrase.
Probably yes.
The passphrase must have unaccented characters to be usable.

2. Problem two: the plain text.
But take a look here too.
When the plain message contains accented letters, these are wrongly
reproduced when the message is decrypted, as I described here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/enigmail/+bug/78308/comments/4

I think there is a problem in the used charset, either for the
passphrase, or for the plain text.

Thank you for your attention.
