Bug Description

In the Linux Mint 11 RC 32b (DVD version upgraded from CD) the gnome panel sometimes shows pieces of wallpaper in various places (see attachment). It is very annoying especially in the notification area. BTW all the settings are the default ones (haven't changed neither wallpaper, icons, opacity nor theme yet) and FYI the same thing happens in the latest Ubuntu Natty (with classic gnome). I usually have to logout/login or restart to fix it.

I think that's a glitch in the rendering department... compiz in particular. A workaround might be to use fusion-icon to switch to Metacity.

Thanks for the tip, but that didn't work too well for me. I have an old notebook Umax with VIA chipset and UniChrome PRO grafics so I can forget about all the cool stuff with compiz. I always turn the effects off (in previous versions in Appearance pref) and it runs smoothly without any major glitches. So if it can't be fixed I will go back to Mint 10.
But back to the problem. When I press Fusion icon the screen goes black and I am forced to login again - I don't know if it is a bug or just my feature ;-)... I switched to Metacity through Ubuntu tweak app, but it is even worse because to open mintmenu I have to press the button about three times, it slows my workflow considerably and for example playing video is like slow motion and/or my NB freezes completely. IMO inconsistent gnome panel is lesser evil.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #> and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Since OP has said he does not run compiz, invalidating the compiz project.
