Bug Description

Binary package hint: vlc

When playing a DVD in vlc if I right click on the screen the menus are immediately drawn over by the playing DVD. If I move my mouse over the menu (which I cannot see) then as each item is highlighted it becomes briefly visible before being again drawn over by the next frame of the playing DVD. It is as though the Menu and the DVD are being drawn at the same z-order.

Using Ubuntu 11.04, default desktop, desktop effects are turned off.

Does this also happen if VLC is started as vlc --no-embedded-video? Are you using the normal Qt interface or the skin engine?

The issue occurs with --no-embedded-video too,

I forgot to mention, I am using the default gnome desktop. I reverted back from unity when I upgraded to 11.04. The desktop effects are turned off because I control this HTPC via vlc on my iphone. The bug is visible on the TV, and over vlc.

The problem occurs both windowed and full screen. It appears that the DVD output is over writing everything on screen, including other apps which have the focus. See screen shot.

I tried this with no vlc connected using a real mouse/keyboard and I get the same issue.

No idea how to check for themes/qt.

Unfortunately, it looks like your XVideo driver is broken and just overlays the video on top of everything. You can work around it using another video output plugin (but video rendering will be slower).
