Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

During install from both 10.04 64 bit alternate cd and 11.04 64 bit DVD, text mode- i cannot set a parition marked as 'raid' type to bootable. When i press 'enter' it simply flickers but remains 'no'.

Perhaps this has to do with metadata type? It appears the metadata being used to create the partition is 1.2, where grub only currently supports .90 i believe.

Expected:
Select 'bootable' flag works on raid autodetect partition
Selecting 'bootable' flag makes installer use metadata version .90 for this partition
If no parition is labled 'bootable', installer errors out and indicates you will not be able to boot.

Or perhaps this is because 'parted' does not support both boot flag and raid flag simultaneously?

Perhaps the following link will help clarify this issue:

Recently, I suffered with the same problem installing 10.4 on two 2Tb drives in RAID 1 configuration. Following the guidelines outlined in the link above everything installed fine.

The highlights are:

1. Create a 1Mb BIOS boot partition one both drives (assuming RAID 1) but don't create RAID device on these partitions
2. Don't use/need a /boot partition
3. Don't worry about setting any partition to bootable
4. Create the rest of the partitioning scheme as always setting the physical device partitions to RAID.

There may still be a bug but in my case following these guidelines got my system up and running with no problems.

Hope this helps.

Indeed, parted doesn't support this. Why do you need the RAID partition to be bootable?
