Bug Description

nvidia-96 refuses to install on a fresh copy of 11.04 and says it has broken packages and unmet dependencies. I removed all instances of nvidia and xorg with synaptic and reverted to the lucid xorg so I was able to install nvidia-96. After reboot there is a system freeze and a system error in failsafe X.

This appears to be the same problem as bug 627022. Just on a different line of code because it's a (vastly) different nvidia driver version. Can anyone look at the offending versions of nv.c to confirm it's the same code, so same bug?

Reviewed both versions of nv.c and found they are the same line of code:
nv.c:244 (nvidia-96 96.43.17-0ubuntu1) == nv.c:417 (nvidia-current 195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04)
