Desktop Plug: remember my wallpaper library [$25]

the wallpaper plug rescans for wallpapers every time, having to re-add the wallpapers that were already there.

It should really keep a "library" of wallpapers.

Looks like you just want a faster loading, not a library. I'm sure loading can be optimized by using Tumbler for thumbnails and maybe using more efficient listing functions.

Well no, I don't want it to reload every single time. When Shotwell opens up, it doesn't re-import my library every time. It just remembers what photos are in there.

But either way, I'm going to untarget this from beta1. While slightly annoying, I don't think it's entirely unacceptable to ship in a Beta since it is working.

If we merge wallpaper and shell plug as seen in my branch, and the wallpaper plug isn't in the first tab, you'll almost not notice that it loads.

On slower computers this may well be a problem, even on my quadcore processor it takes the plug a little more then 2 seconds to load every wallpaper, and that is just with default wallpapers. If you have a larger wallpaper collection it will surely take up a lot more time.

I am for a library in the form of a small database for wallpapers. Maybe check on start of the plugin if there are any new wallpapers, but that should be done when the existing library is already loaded, i think.

I agree with Dan this is a rather small inconvenienve at the moment so maybe this is something for luna+1? Does anyone know how much time it would take to implement this?

A wallpaper library would be really useful. It could be shown in Pantheon-Photos as well something similar to Camera roll.

Seems this was fixed in Rev 327 by Erasmo
