Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

Can't say much really - I left the PC alone to download and install the upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04. When I came back to it - it complained about ndiswrapper - failure to update. And then when I clicked OK, it showed the following error message:
The upgrade has aborted. Your system could be in an unusable state. A recover will now run (dpkg --configure -a). Please report this bug against the update manager package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade in the bug report. E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

OK. Quick update.

I rebooted the system and it boots in fine. KDE looks great, but starting to pick up some errors. I went to install updates and so on - and hit a snag.

Firstly, I re-enabled the Skype repository in sources, so that it checks if Skype has updated software. No problems.

Then I tried to enable restricted packages. But it failed on the install - quoting: "One of the select4ed packages failed to install correctly. More information is available in the detailed report. Details: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 139."

Same for trying to install ndiswrapper (which is the package that I think caused the problems anyway...)

One other thing - Firefox 4 looks all gnome-ish. Not an expert here - but it definitely looks far less KDE than it used to. Am I missing some libraries somewhere?

It seems that I have a working system - albeit, a little hobbled beneath the surface. What would be good next step to identifying and then repairing the problems underneath the surface here?

Thanks.

Another update. Rebooted again (always hopeful that it will solve itself!!!)

I ran the a sudo dpkg --configure -a in Yakuake terminal and got the following:

sudo dpkg --configure -a
[sudo] password for markh:
Setting up nspluginwrapper (1.2.2-0ubuntu9) ...
plugin dirs: :/var/lib/flashplugin-installer/
Auto-update plugins from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins

Segmentation fault
dpkg: error processing nspluginwrapper (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 139
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of flashplugin-installer:
 flashplugin-installer depends on nspluginwrapper (>= 0.9.91.4-2ubuntu1); however:
Package nspluginwrapper is not configured yet.
dpkg: error processing flashplugin-installer (--configure):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
 nspluginwrapper
 flashplugin-installer

Don't know if you understood from the logs - but I forgot to mention that this is KDE, Kubuntu 11.04, on 64 bit.

Cheers.

That looks good. Now attach the file /var/lib/dpkg/status

Apologies for the delay. Attached as requested.

More info though:

Done a few updates of packages since the upgrade. Most times, there is a 'fail' at some point - that means that KPackageKit has to abort/close down or whatever. Nevertheless, all packages "seem" to install - because there are no remaining packages to install when I re-load the package list.

Happened three times now.

Cheers.

Ok try this:

sudo apt-get autoremove nspluginwrapper 2>&1 | tee ~/Desktop/remove1

Attach the output file to your next post. It will be located on your desktop.

NOTE: Dont reinstall the package yet. I want to make sure it was removed properly first. Thanks.

Good. Now try the reinstall.

sudo apt-get install nspluginwrapper

See if it completes successfully.

This is actually a duplicate of, what looks like, a known bug within nspluginwrapper. But before I mark it, report back regarding whether you had success or not. Thanks.

Oops. Sorry about that. Note that the error code has now changed - used to be something like error 139. Does error code (1) mean that it's a simpler error (he says hopefully!!!)

Actually disregard that for now. First try removing the google talk plugin and then try reinstalling this package. See if that works.
