Bug Description
Binary package hint: xserver-
After reboot, entered username and password and Unity comes up horribly distorted. Alt+F2 xterm is usable but funky. Install fglrx, reboot and Unity is disabled but Gnome runs perfectly. (I really dislike the Fisher Price interface anyway.) Happy ending but the average user would not make it through the night.

This installation got even worse as keyboard bindings eventually caused the "2" key to switch DVI output to a mode my monitor would not support. You could work for a few minutes by resetting keyboard in System > Preferences > Keyboard.but eventually typing a "2" would hang the system display.
Incorrectly believing that "64" would yield better performance than "32", I came to my senses and installed the i386 version which fixed a raft of problems including this one.
