Provide line length in text object

Please provide an option in the Stroke style tab of the Fill and Stroke dialogue to have an text object appear next to a line with the length of that line. See attachment for an example.

When this option is enabled, the following extra options should be provided to the user:
- line length position: top, bottom, left or right
- line length offset (distance to the line)
- line length font name and font size
- line length unit: mm, cm, in, etc.

Whenever the line is altered, this text object should automatically update too.

Implementing this will easy creating technical drawing where line lengths are important.

What about using the extension 'Visualize Path > Measure Path…'?

I'm aware that the extension doesn't include automatic updating since it is a static effect.

The current implementation of the tech-drawing tools (part of the experimental LPEs, needs to be enabled at compile time) already do include a path effect to display the path length dynamically.

You can try the 0.91+devel measssure tool?
Any way whats you opinion about a info in the messages zone with the lengt of current selected path? for fast access without measuring it?

Thanks for the suggestion but this request is on measurements that are part of the drawing, when making technical or architectural designs.

Hi Pander. With the new meassure tool improvements on 0.91+devel, you can convert a measure to a "real" draw for technical. here are a short video:
