Bug Description

Binary package hint: indicator-weather

Hello,

Yesterday, in my newly upgraded natty, I installed the indicator-weather from ppa. I played around with it, added 3 cities everything was fine. This morning when restarting the laptop, I haven't got the indicator. Now I have been searching for hours what it could be.

- It is running in the process task, so are the desktopcouch services
- I have, using the mouse and the keyboard gone through every indicator and it is not hidden or invisible. it is not there.
- I have removed and reinstalled from ubuntu repository - 2 packages - still not working
- I have removed and reinstalled from ppa - 4 packages - still not working, I am now using the 11.05.01 version

I join the log file...

Pretty much the same scenario. Indicator-weather is running as a process and was successfully configured. However, it doesn't appear in the 11.04 panel (running Unity).

Seems like something is wrong with desktopcouch database.
It might be a desktopcouch bug.

Close the indicator from the command line:
killall indicator-weather

and navigate with your browser to:
file:///home/YOUR_USERNAME_HERE/.local/share/desktop-couch/couchdb.html

From there you'll be directed to the Couchdb administration page (Futon).
You should see a list of databases. 'weatherindicator' database should be there. Click on it and then click on the "Delete database" link to delete it.

Start again the indicator and set it up.
Logout and login again and hopefully the indicator will show up again.

If not close again the indicator.
From the command line close all couchdb processes:
pkill -9 -f couch

Delete the local desktopcouch directory (Note that this might delete all your databases, like UbuntuOne settings):
~/.local/share/desktop-couch

When you start the indicator again the desktopcouch directory will be recreated.

I had this problem. Turned out desktop couch wasn't running at all. I had to remove all the desktop couch packages and reinstall them to get the weather indicator to work. This was on fully updated Natty x64

I have done everything mentioned above, still not working, however, it does seem that the problem come from desktopcouch, when going to file:///home/YOUR_USERNAME_HERE/.local/share/desktop-couch/couchdb.html, it says the service is not started, I have continued a bug here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/desktopcouch/+bug/674396

I have tried half a dozen time to remove, purge and all couch, reinstalled, still nothing, so frustrating. Comments are welcome!

Marking as invalid for Weather Indicator, as the problem is clearly in desktopcouch.

Note, that next version will use dconf as a storage, so the problem will be kinda solved

Note, that the next versions will most likely use dconf instead of desktopcocuh, so the problem will be kinda solved

Changed in weather-indicator:
status: New → Invalid
Changed in indicator-weather (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid
